SPEAK OUT!® Therapy for Parkinson’s

Speech Therapy for People with Parkinson’s

SPEAK OUT!® is a research-based therapy program developed by Parkinson Voice Project to help people with Parkinson’s and related movement disorders maintain their speech and swallowing abilities. The program is built around the concept of “speaking with intent.” This approach encourages participants to communicate with deliberate effort, helping address the softer, less clear speech that can develop with Parkinson’s.

Therapy can focus on areas such as speech volume, articulation, breath support, vocal quality, intonation and facial expression. The aim is to make everyday communication clearer and more effective.

Participants typically work individually with a Certified SPEAK OUT! Provider and complete structured exercises designed to strengthen the skills introduced during therapy. Daily home practice is an important part of the program, helping participants continue using these techniques outside therapy sessions and incorporate them into everyday conversations.

Ongoing group classes and regular follow-up assessments are also encouraged, supporting long-term practice and helping people with Parkinson’s maintain their communication skills and confidence over time.
